Regional Feats for Urkana
The following feats are available for characters in the Urkana setting.  There are two types listed here.

Background feats represent factors of birth and early training that has helped form a character's abilities.  These are only available to 1st level characters.

Geographic feats represent unique abilities that can be learned in a particular region.   These are ordinarily taken at first level to represent the unique training of the region in which they were raised.  Higher level characters may take these feats if they gain 2 ranks of Knowlege (Local) for the region to which that feat applies.

If a character can take more than one feat at first level, he or she may start with one background and one geographic feat.

Most of these were derived from the article "Regional Feats of Oerth" by Erik Mona found in Dragon Magazine #315.  Some were derived from "Players Guide to Faerun."

Bareback Rider [Geographic]
You have gained experience riding without a saddle.
Region: Horseclan Plains
Prerequisites: 1 Rank in Ride Skill
Benefit: You do not penalties when riding a bareback and can automatically guide your mount with your knees.  This gives a +1 competancy bonus to attack rolls using ranged weapons while riding.
Normal: -5 penalty for riding bareback.
Merchant Family [Background]
You come from a family that has been in the merchant business for generations.
Region: Kesathakian Sea, Kingdom of Gosien, Kingdom of Hamant, Kingdom of Kirea, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: 1 Rank in Appraise or Diplomacy
Benefit: You gain +2 on all Appraise skill checks.  When selling used goods, you get 60% of their base price for them and once a month, you can buy an item at 80% of its listed price.
Normal: Used goods sell for 50% of base price.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Demon Fighter [Geographic]
Evil outsiders frequent your region.  You have learned some of their weaknesses and not to fear them.
Region: Badlands, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You get a +2 enchancment bonus to save vs fear of evil outsiders and +2 competancy bonus to attack rolls when fighting evil outsiders.
Mountain Lore [Geographic]
You are familiar with the mountains of Urkana.
Region: Blue Mountains, Crimson Mountains, Spine of the World Mountains, White Mountains
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Climb, Hide, Spot, and Survival skill checks.  These bonuses increases to +3 when in a mountain or hilly area.
Devoted [Geographic]
Your devotion has been noted by your deity.  Occassionally, you get a second chance to avoid disaster.
Region: Elven Kingdoms, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: Designate a deity to follow.
Benefit: Once a day, you may re-roll a failed saving throw and add your Wisdom modifier to the new roll.  The second roll stands wether it a success or not.
Mountain Troop [Geographic]
You are skilled at fighting at higher altitudes and on sloping ground.
Region: Blue Mountains, Crimson Mountains, Elven Kingdoms, Kingdom of Busin, Kingdom of Breang, Northlands, Selik Woods, Upper Anorfin Dale, White Mountains
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus of +1
Benefit: When fighting in hilly or mountainous terrain, you get a +2 Dodge bonus to AC.
Special: This feat may be taken as a Fighter bonus feat.
Displaced Nobility [Background]
You are part of a Noble family that was displaced by war, rebellion or other means.  You retain some of the status and wealth of that station but have no land.
Region: Elven Kingdoms, Kingdom of Breang, Kingdom of Gosien Kingdom of Kirea,  Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain maximum starting wealth and +4 bonus to Charisma based skill checks when dealing with people from your country wherever they may be.
Normal: Starting wealth is randomly rolled.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Noble Heart [Background]
The strength of your determination allows you to succeed where other might fail.
Region: Badlands, Horseclan Plains, Kingdom of Breang, Kingdom of Knothera, Lomindel Woods, Selik Woods, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on Will saves and +2 bonus on Diplomacy skill checks.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Dog Lore [Geographic]
Of all the mounts you have ridden, you are most at ease with dogs.
Region: Highlands, Kingdom of Hamant, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: Halfling, 1 Rank of Ride skill.
Benefit: You get a +3 bonus on Ride skill checks when on horses and a +3 bonus on Animal Handling skill checks when dealing with dogs.  Dogs are initially friendly toward you.
Special: A fighter may take this as a bonus feat.
Nomadic Life [Background]
You were brought up among nomads that depended more on hunting than agriculture to survive.
Region: Highlands, Horesclan Plains, Icewall, Northlands
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: Ride and Survival become class skills for you.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Orc Bloodline [Background]
Somewhere in your distant past you have a relative that was an Orc.  You don't have enough Orc blood to be considered a Half-Orc, but still have some features of that race.
Region: Enorak Land, Hirath Swamp, Kingdom of Breang, Maywen Swamp, Niratha Woods
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain darkvision out to 30 feet.  You may select Barbarian as a favored class instead of the normal class for your race, but once selected, it must remain Barbarian, You are not considered an Orc for race related effects.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Dwarf Lore [Geographic]
You have learned the songs and legends of the Dwarves, giving you an insight to that race.
Region: Kingdom of Busen, Kingdom of Hamant, Kingdom of Knotherea, Tynea Woods, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: Dwarven Langauage
Benefit: You gain a +1 to Knowledge (Dungeoneering) skill checks, +1 to Knowledge (Religion) skill checks, and +2  bonus to Charisma skill checks when dealing with Dwarves.
Elf Lore [Geographic]
You have studied the art, poetry, and songs of the Elves, giving an insight to that race.
Region: Blue Mountains, Elven Kingdoms, Kesathakian Sea, Kingdom of Knothera, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: Elven Language
Benefit: You gain +1 bonus to Knowledge (Nature) skill checks, 1 rank in a perform skill of your choice, and +2 bonus to Charisma based skill checks when dealing with Elves.

Plains Lore [Geographic]
You are familiar with the plains of Urkana.
Region: Eastern Coast, Highlands, Horeseclan Plains, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Hide, Spot, Ride, and Survival skills checks.  These bonuses increases to +3 when in a plains area.
Razor Wit [Geographic]
Your quick wit makes your lies all the more believable.
Region: Inland Sea, Kingdom of Hamant, Kingdom of Kirea
Prerequisites: Bluff 4 ranks.
Benefit: Both your Charisma modifier and your Intelligence modifier are added to all Bluff checks.
Fearless [Geographic]
Frequent battles with fearsome beings and creatures have only helped to increase your bravery.
Region: Badlands, Maywen Swamp, Niratha Woods, Tyborea Woods
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You are immune to fear effects whether magical or natural.
Scholar [Background]
Your studies have given you an extensive knowledge of many different things.
Region: Elven Kingdoms, Kesathakian Sea, Kingdom of Hamant
Prerequisites: Literate
Benefit: All Knowledge skills are considered class skills for you.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Fearless Raider [Geographic]
Raiding is a way of life for you and your clan. 
Region: Cebriana Woods, Enorak Land, Northlands
Prerequisites: Base Attack Bonus +1
Benefit: You gain a +2 enchancement bonus to saves vs fear and fear effects and a +2 bonus to Intimidation skill checks.
Forest Lore [Geographic]
Living near woods has allowed you to increase your knowledge of them.
Region: Cebriana Woods, Haunted Woods, Lomindel Woods, Niratha Woods, Selik Woods, Tyborea Woods, Tynea Woods
Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Spot skill checks.  These bonuses increases to +3 when in a wooded area.
Sea Dog [Background]
You grew up on the deck of a ship.
Region: Eastern Shore, Inland Sea, Kesathakian Sea,
Prerequisites: None.
Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on Balance skill checks and +2 bonus on Swim skill checks.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Sentinel [Geographic]
Your experiences maintaining long watches on the border have improved your soldiering.
Region: Badlands, Elven Kingdoms, Kingdom of Breang, Kingdom of Busin, Kingdom of Hamant, Kingdom of Kirea, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: Base attack Bonus 1+
Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus to Spot skill checks and a +2 bonus to all Endurance saves.
Special: This feat may be taken as a Fighter bonus feat.
Galliec Method [Background]
You were trained in the University of Magic in the city of Galliec.
Region:  Elven Kingdoms, Kesathakian Sea, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: Arcane Spellcaster
Benefit: You gain four new spells of your choice to add to your spellbook each time you gain a level in a class that allows you to cast arcane spells.  These represent your research in the library at Galliec and must be of a level you can cast.  If you are a specialist, 2 of the 4 must come from your chosen school.
Normal: Gain only 2 new spells upon leveling.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Silver Tongue [Geographic]
Through experience with many transactions, you have learned the best wake to make a deal.
Region: Kingdom of Busin, Kingdom of Kirea, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: 4 ranks in Diplomacy.
Benefit: You receive a +2 bonus to Bluff skill checks and a +2 bonus to Diplomacy skill checks.
Giant Slayer [Geographic]
You have fought many giants and have learned how to gain an advantage against them.
Region: Crimson Mountains, Icewall, Norhtlands, Tyborea Woods, Tynea Woods
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus of 1+
Benefit: You gain a +4 competancy bonus on attack rolls to confirm critical hits against creatures with the description of giant and a +2 Dodge bonus to your AC when fighting giants.
Special: You may take this feat as a fighter bonus feat.
Slave's Brand [Background]
Your experience as a slave have made you physically and mentally tougher.
Region: Eronak Land, Kingdom of Breang, Kingdom of Kirea
Prerequisites: You must start with an obvious marks you a former slave, such as a brand or tattoo.
Benefit: You receive a +1 insight bonus on Fortitude and Will saves. 
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.  If you reenter the country of your sevitude, you may be considered an escaped slave.
Halfling Lore [Geographic]
You have spent much time among the halflings learning their tales and their recipies.
Region: Highlands, Kingdom of Hamant, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: Halfling Language
Benefit: You gain 1 Rank in Profession (Cook), +1 bonus to Kowledge (local) checks, and a +2 bonus to Charisma skills when dealing with Halflings.
Snow Lore [Geographic]
You are familiar with living and fighting in snow.
Region: Icewall, Lomindel Woods, Northlands, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Hide, Listen, Spot, and Survival skills checks.  These bonuses increases to +3 when in a snow.
High Elven Blood [Background]
Somewhere in your bloodline there is one of the High Elves of Urkana.
Region: Elven Kingdoms, Kesathakian Sea, Upper Anrofin Dale
Prerequisites: Elf or Half-Elf
Benefit: Upon selection of this feat, choose 3 cantrips.  You can cast each of those 1/day as a spell-like ability.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Swamp Lore [Geographic]
You have survived many hours in the swamps of your region and are better prepared for their hazards than most people.
Region: Badlands, Eronak Land, Harith Swamp, Highlands, Maywen Swamp
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to Hide, Spot, Survival and Swim skill checks.  These bonuses increases to +3 when in an area of swamp or marsh.
Horse Lore [Geographic]
Of all the mounts you have ridden, you are most at ease with horses.
Region: Highlands, Horseclan Plains, Kingdom of Gosien
Prerequisites: 1 Rank of Ride skill
Benefit: You get a +3 bonus on Ride skill checks when on horses and a +3 bonus on Animal Handling skill checks when dealing with horses.  Horses are initially friendly toward you.
Special: A fighter may take this as a bonus feat.
Snow Strider [Geographic]
You have learned how to move quickly through the snow and leave no trace.
Region: Icewall, Northlands, Upper Anorfin Dale
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You can move through snow without any reduciton in movement can move through snow covered areas as though you had Pass Without Trace.
Normal: Light snow halves movement and heavy snow quarters movement.
House Guard [Geographic]
Your fighting skills have gained you the position in the house guard of a noble.
Region: Elven Kingdoms, Kingdom of Gosien, Kingdom of Kirea, Kingdom of Knothera
Prerequisites: Proficient with longsword, spear, and bows.  Total attack bonus of +4 with at least one weapon.
Benefit: When fighting with a longsword or longspear, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls.  Also, you gain a +2 competancy bonus on attack rolls made to confirm a critical hit.
Special: This feat my be taken as a Fighter bonus feat.
Trap Bane [Geographic]
Your study of dungeons and trap techniques have given you an edge when exploring.
Region: East Coast,Highlands, Horsclan Plains, Tyborea Woods
Prerequisites: 1 rank Knowledge (Dungeoneering)
Benefit: You receive a +4 competancy bonus on saves made against mechanical traps.
Veteran's Eye [Background]
You have survived many fights and are difficult to surprise.
Region: Badlands, Eronak Land, Veteran Eye, Kingdom of Kirea
Prerequisites: None
Benefit: You get +2 bonus to Initiative and a +2 bonus to Spot skill checks.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Light User [Background]
A scarcity of clerics has necessitated the training of other to deal with undead.
Region: Badlands, Haunted Woods, Highlands, Selik Woods
Prerequisites: Member of a class that can cast divine spells.
Benefit: You can turn or rebuke undead like a cleric 2 + your Charisma modifier times per day.
Normal: Only clerics can turn or rebuke undead.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
Mercenary Experience [Background]
You have worked with other mercenaries from across Urkana and pick up languages easily.
Region: Eronak Land, Kingdom of Breland, Kingdom of Kirea
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus of 1+.
Benefit: Add any one language, other than restricted languages like Druid, to your list of languages.  You receive a +1 bonus on all Knowledge (local) skill checks.
Special: May only be taken at 1st level.
